Just What Were You Thinking?!!

"6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable?if anything is excellent or praiseworthy?think about such things. "

Philippians 4:6-8


I have to be honest. Here lately, I have been overcome with anxious care. I have been looking at life through dark glasses--always considering the worst case scenario in every aspect of my life. I am not sure which unpleasant event triggered this pessimistic practice, but one morning around 6 am, I heard the Lord tell me that I had a serious problem. He placed today?s scripture my spirit, and I began to meditate on the principles, therein. Let?s look at what it teaches:
  • First, Paul admonishes the Philippian Believers to present their requests to God. In return, the Lord would cover them with a peace that would keep them from having emotional and mental breakdowns.

Since the Lord directed my husband and I to begin our ministry, I have become very familiar with heartache. I have found that there is a big difference between Kingdom living and the practices and attitudes of the institutional church. And what became very clear to me is that Jesus was crucified for trying to teach Kingdom principles to church people! When the Word of God is lifted amongst those who would rather not practice its principles, this includes church-goers too, the messenger of the Word can expect to be attacked. Such attacks are painful to the Believer who has the qualities of the Lamb of God. Just let me tell you, I have been lied on, lied to, used, misunderstood, ostracized, and the like, while teaching God?s Word. But what hurt the most is that it was those persons who claimed to be my brothers and sisters in the Gospel who did these things! During these last three years, I have had to depend on the LORD for strength to get out of bed on many occasions. Continual attacks can be quite exhausting. So, when Paul admonishes the Believers in Philippi to talk to God about their situations, I understand that he was teaching them the importance of placing the burdens of life on the only One who could truly bear them.

  • Then, Paul admonishes the Philippian Believers to change the focus of their thoughts.

Instead of dwelling on the negative, recognize the positive aspects of every situation. How easy is that? In other words, Paul told them to take on the mind of Christ, and identify the reasons for praising the Father. Jesus suffered greatly, but He never failed to glorify His Father. Now, when I think about those who mistreated me, the first thing that I do is thank God that He removed them from my company. (I don?t think that this is what Paul had in mind, but it is a beginning.) Then, I bless Him for allowing me to suffer as His Son did. Suffering for righteousness sake is always honorable. I have also extended this practice to my family life. When my teenage daughter tries my patience, I no longer let it frustrate me, but I thank God that she has the ability to think for herself and make choices?whether good or bad. Many children are not able to do either. So, though her thoughts are not my thoughts and her ways are not my ways, I thank God that she is able to think for herself. This practice also works in my career. On many mornings, I have dreaded the fact that I had to go to work. But now, I think on positive things. I thank God that I have the ability and the means to provide for my family. I thank God that He has entrusted me with the opportunity to share His love with my coworkers?especially the wicked ones who lie on me.

Today, why don?t you practice what Paul instructed the Philippians to do. It really works. I am a witness that when I change my focus and look for reasons to praise God, anxiety seems to melt away. If you are like me, you are tired of people giving quick fixes to deep-rooted problems. But trust me, this is really working in my life. As soon as a complaint crosses my mind, I flip it around and make it an opportunity to give praise. You will be surprised at how many blessings God has secretly tucked away in your every day life.





Paid In Full!

Paid In Full!

"This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them, " then He adds, "Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more." Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin."  - Hebrews 10:16-18

     the act of "release[ing] from the guilt or penalty of " -Merriam-Webster 


One  of my job duties is to ensure that penalties and fees exacted upon offenders are paid in full and disbursed to the victims as ordered by the court. Oftentimes, an offender will go directly to the court and pay their costs and fines. At that time, the court considers their account paid in full. The court is no longer expecting to receive funds related to the particular offenses. Subsequently, after making full retribution to the court, the offenders will submit payments to my office for the same offenses. Unaware that the debts had been paid directly by the offender, my office will forward the payments that we have received to the court. Within a month, we will find that the court has returned the funds. When we inquire, we also find that the court had been paid directly. As a result, they are not accepting any additional payments for the particular cases. Any and all attempts by my office to forward these funds will be rejected by the court because the offenders have been declared to be in good standing with the court concerning their debts.

I find that this same situation occurs in the spiritual realm. The Word of God plainly tells us that the Lord has declared us to be righteous by the Blood of Jesus when we accept Him as our Savior. According to Hebrews 10:17, our "sins and [...] lawless deeds" are remembered no more." And when these are forgiven and forgotten, "there is no longer an offering for sin."

When we continue to follow the law or attempt to clear our record with the Lord by way of our works, we are trying to pay a debt that was paid on our behalf by Jesus. He took His own blood directly to the Throne, the Mercy Seat, and atoned for our sins. Therefore, because the Father has accepted His Son?s sacrifice, there is nothing for us to do except accept it! When we submit our self-righteous acts to the Lord as offerings to clear our guilt, He rejects them and tells us that He does not want them. They are not good enough or necessary if we have accepted His Son as our Savior.

Today, rest assured that God is not holding your past against you if you have committed your life to Jesus. You are righteous by faith and your debt has been

PAID IN FULL!





Rest

Proverbs 16:33

"The lot is cast into the lap, but the decision is wholly of the Lord [even the events that seem accidental are really ordered by Him]."(Amplified)

The Bible declares that there is a rest that those who have faith in God can enter (Hebrews 3:7-4:11)

The doorway to this place of rest can only be found by those who not only believe in God, but BELIEVE GOD.

Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to avoid relying on what we understand, and place our reliance in God, because He will direct our paths.

In my, almost, 40 years on earth, I have worried about everything from global warming to tire blow-outs. And today I can honestly say that no good thing has come out of my worrying. But, there have been incidents and “accidents” in my life that have produced so much insight and revelation. And this was no accident!

In our text, the writer states that even “accidents” are ordained by the Lord. Have you ever been involved in an accident that changed your entire life? Have you ever accidentally bumped into someone, only to end up marrying that person? Have you ever been involved in an auto accident, and found that the monetary settlement paid an unexpected bill? Well, I have (on both accounts). I have found that when I constantly worried about a thing, it made no positive difference. In fact, it only caused other problems (such as health-related issues). But when I decided to just trust God with whatever He allowed, I saw that He used every incident to bring glory to Himself.

The child of God who enters this place of rest can truly rest! It is as if he has entered a secret chamber, where nothing can harm him.

I am reminded of the Biblical account where Balak, King of the Moabites, hired Balaam to curse Israel. But the Angel of the Lord met Balaam and told him that he could only speak what the Lord put in his mouth. Though Balaam was hired to curse Israel, he could only bless them because they were in the care of the Lord. No contrary word or wind was allowed to affect them unless the LORD allowed it.
At the command of the Lord, Balaam said,

"Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he (God)hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it." (Numbers 23:20)

When one enters this place where he believes every word that God speaks, he has entered the strong tower of the Lord. It is here that he is delivered from anxious care and worry. In this place, one can say, “Come, what may. God is in control, and I trust Him with my life.” It is a place where one can rest from his/ her own efforts, and rely on Our Father for everything.

Why not enter this resting place today while the invitation is open unto you? Simply ask the Spirit of the Lord to come into your life so that Jesus can become your Savior. Then open your Bible and your heart, and BELIEVE every Word that God breathes into your spirit.
If Jesus is already your Savior, then remember that it was those who had been delivered from Egypt who failed to enter the Promised Land (place of rest) because of unbelief. Beware unless you should develop a heart that is hardened against the Lord.
Spend quiet time with the Lord and renew your relationship with Him. He loves you.

Hear Ye, the Lord

Genesis 22:1-2

1After all this, God tested Abraham. God said, "Abraham!"
"Yes?" answered Abraham. "I'm listening."
2He said, "Take your dear son Isaac whom you love and go to the land of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains that I'll point out to you."



Being able to hear God is a privilege with a two-edged sword. On the one side, it is a blessing to have your ear to the mouth of God. But on the other side, it is a great responsibility because God trusts His friends with secret things (Deuteronomy 29:29) and difficult tasks. Once you truly hear what He is saying, you may not like what you hear. In today’s text, Abraham, God’s very faithful friend gets a call from the LORD. And when he replies, “I’m listening”, God tells Him to do a hard thing. He tells him to sacrifice his only son – the son who would be used to fulfill the promise that the LORD gave to him. I am sure that Abraham put his finger in his ear to see if he could remove what he had heard. But, it was too late. The LORD had already given the order.
When you are a trusted friend of God or one who has been called to speak for Him, God will test the boundaries of your faithfulness. Because the human heart is deceitfully wicked (Jeremiah 17:9), the Lord has to bring our true motives to the surface so that we can see ourselves (Daniel 2:22). Abraham passed the test with flying colors! He proved to the LORD that he was not seeking Him for what He could give him, but he was seeking Him for true friendship.
After coming through a difficult time, I heard the Spirit say, “You passed the test, and I will reward you for your obedience.” Now, this is good to hear! If the Lord is asking a hard thing of you today, first be grateful that you can hear Him (John 8:47), and then just obey. Love Him with all of your heart. Whatever sacrifices you have to make to prove your love and loyalty will be more than worth it. The reward will be that you will end up with a “Friend who sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24).”

1I LOVE You fervently and devotedly, O Lord, my Strength.

Just Because It Has No Life, Doesn’t Mean That it is Dead!

The Death of Lazarus
1A man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. 2This was the same Mary who massaged the Lord's feet with aromatic oils and then wiped them with her hair. It was her brother Lazarus who was sick. 3So the sisters sent word to Jesus, "Master, the one you love so very much is sick."
4When Jesus got the message, he said, "This sickness is not fatal. It will become an occasion to show God's glory by glorifying God's Son."
21Martha said, "Master, if you'd been here, my brother wouldn't have died. 22Even now, I know that whatever you ask God he will give you."
23Jesus said, "Your brother will be raised up."
24Martha replied, "I know that he will be raised up in the resurrection at the end of time."
25"You don't have to wait for the End. I am, right now, Resurrection and Life. The one who believes in me, even though he or she dies, will live. 26And everyone who lives believing in me does not ultimately die at all. Do you believe this?"
27"Yes, Master. All along I have believed that you are the Messiah, the Son of God who comes into the world."
38Then Jesus, the anger again welling up within him, arrived at the tomb. It was a simple cave in the hillside with a slab of stone laid against it. 39Jesus said, "Remove the stone."
The sister of the dead man, Martha, said, "Master, by this time there's a stench. He's been dead four days!"
40Jesus looked her in the eye. "Didn't I tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?"
41Then, to the others, "Go ahead, take away the stone."
They removed the stone. Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and prayed, "Father, I'm grateful that you have listened to me. 42I know you always do listen, but on account of this crowd standing here I've spoken so that they might believe that you sent me."
43Then he shouted, "Lazarus, come out!" 44And he came out, a cadaver, wrapped from head to toe, and with a kerchief over his face.
Jesus told them, "Unwrap him and let him loose."

The Man Who Creates God-Signs
45That was a turnaround for many of the Jews who were with Mary. They saw what Jesus did, and believed in him. 46But some went back to the Pharisees and told on Jesus. 47The high priests and Pharisees called a meeting of the Jewish ruling body. "What do we do now?" they asked. "This man keeps on doing things, creating God-signs. 48If we let him go on, pretty soon everyone will be believing in him and the Romans will come and remove what little power and privilege we still have."
49Then one of them--it was Caiaphas, the designated Chief Priest that year--spoke up, "Don't you know anything? 50Can't you see that it's to our advantage that one man dies for the people rather than the whole nation be destroyed?" 51He didn't say this of his own accord, but as Chief Priest that year he unwittingly prophesied that Jesus was about to die sacrificially for the nation, 52and not only for the nation but so that all God's exile-scattered children might be gathered together into one people.
57Meanwhile, the high priests and Pharisees gave out the word that anyone getting wind of him should inform them. They were all set to arrest him.”


Merriam-Webster defines the word, “fatal”, as follows:

“4 a : causing death”.

Therefore, we can conclude that anything that is described as being fatal, will ultimately cause death. In today’s text, we see that a dearly beloved friend of Jesus, by the name of Lazarus, has taken ill. When Lazarus’ sisters send a “911” message to Jesus, He purposely waits too late to answer the call. The Bible records that “When Jesus got the message, he said, "This sickness is not fatal (vs. 4a).” Yet, later we read that Lazarus actually dies. Was Jesus wrong? Did He make a mistake and send forth an incorrect prophetic word? At first glance, it surely seems so. It seems that Jesus missed the mark. How could He say that Lazarus’ sickness was not fatal when Mary and Martha had to, eventually, bury their brother’s dead body? The answer to this question lies in the remainder of Jesus’ statement: “It will become an occasion to show God's glory by glorifying God's Son (vs. 4b).” “Your brother will be raised up (vs. 23).” Jesus’ purpose for allowing Lazarus to die was to create an opportunity for unbelievers to witness the glory of God. Right before their eyes, Jesus called Lazarus from his tomb, and performed a miracle so fantastic that many of the Jews became Believers. How awesome it must have been to witness the work of God, firsthand!

In John 20:30-31, the Bible says that “Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”

You see, His whole purpose for allowing His friend to die was to get glory unto the Father. There are things in your life today that seem to be dead – lost; gone forever. But I want to encourage you, today, that it’s not over. Just because it has no life today, does not mean that it will be dead tomorrow. We see that Jesus considered Lazarus to be asleep. If God has a purpose for it, my friend, it’s not dead! For God will resurrect it to His very own glory. It could be your ministry. It could be a loved one. It could be your own walk with God. Maybe today you are struggling. Maybe you haven’t ministered. Or maybe you haven’t been to church in a long time. Or maybe you haven’t worshiped Him. Maybe you feel that your relationship with Him is dead. Maybe your hope is gone. Today, I beg you to commit it to the Lord’s Hand. Everything that has tasted death, is not dead, today. For, God will raise it up to the glory of God so that men and women who watch and have seen the life leave your very hands will say, “How did that happen? What type of man is this that even the elements and life answer His voice?” Today, be encouraged. For what you consider to be dead is just asleep in the Master’s Hand. God bless you today.

Romans 9:25-28


25Hosea put it well:
I'll call nobodies and make them somebodies; I'll call the unloved and make them beloved. 26In the place where they yelled out, "You're nobody!" they're calling you "God's living children." 27Isaiah maintained this same emphasis:
If each grain of sand on the seashore were numbered and the sum labeled "chosen of God,"
They'd be numbers still, not names;
salvation comes by personal selection.
28God doesn't count us; he calls us by name.

Do you remember how it used to be in gym class when the teacher would select two captains who were responsible for choosing the members of their teams? Well, I do. Oh, how I really abhorred those times! I was considered to be the “brainy” girl, so no one thought of me as being particularly athletic. And, as you might imagine, I was usually one of the last persons chosen by my peers. I knew that I would eventually be picked – not by name, but as part of the whole. I knew that after all of the “good” ones had been chosen, they would have to add me to one of the teams, simply by the process of elimination. If you can identify, then today’s message is definitely for you!

In today’s text, the Apostle Paul is speaking, and he references the words spoken through two Old Testament prophets – Hosea and Isaiah. Both prophetic voices described God’s plan of selection and election. Through Hosea, the Lord said, “I'll call nobodies and make them somebodies”. And through Isaiah, He proclaimed, “salvation comes by personal selection. God doesn't count us; he calls us by name. Arithmetic is not his focus.”
What wonderful words to grace the ears of the “least likely” and the “last chosen” among us. In other words, when God called you, He did not just grab you as one of many. You are not saved because you were the pastor’s daughter or the prophet’s friend. But He called you by name. And He did not choose you last because He ran out of choices, but He chose you because He wanted you. Yes, you! Even if you were less than desirable when He called you, He still desired you as an individual. I speak to so many people who feel like they are second-class, Heaven-bound citizens. They subconsciously believe that God is only allowing them to come along for the ride, and that His real focus is on the more flamboyant or articulate or “holy” Believers. But the fact of the matter is that this is simply not true. God is no respecter of persons. The same grace that saved Billy Graham is also used to save a serial killer, or a knocked-kneed, “brainy” nerd, like me.
I am so glad that God is not focusing on “the numbers” when He calls us into His salvation and marvelous Light. He is focusing on each and every one of us. For, He had a specific purpose in mind when He called each of us. And if you were the only person to receive His gift of salvation, that would have been enough for Him to have a stellar team - Just you and the Lord.

Today, if you are feeling inferior in the Body of Christ, (or outside of the Body of Christ), please lift your chin up. God knows you by name, and has called you into a personal, one-on-one relationship with Him. True, after you accept the call, you are placed into the whole Body of Believers, but you are never lost in the numbers. You will never have to worry about sitting on the sidelines with God.

The Offering of Broken Vessels

2 Corinthians 8:1-5


The Offering
"1Now, friends, I want to report on the surprising and generous ways in which God is working in the churches in Macedonia province. 2Fierce troubles came down on the people of those churches, pushing them to the very limit. The trial exposed their true colors: They were incredibly happy, though desperately poor. The pressure triggered something totally unexpected: an outpouring of pure and generous gifts. 3I was there and saw it for myself. They gave offerings of whatever they could--far more than they could afford!- 4pleading for the privilege of helping out in the relief of poor Christians.
5This was totally spontaneous, entirely their own idea, and caught us completely off guard. What explains it was that they had first given themselves unreservedly to God and to us. The other giving simply flowed out of the purposes of God working in their lives."


The agape love is God is so amazing. There is nothing like it in the whole wide world. It is a relentless love – one that does not consider situations, hindrances, or impossibilities. It was by that same unconditional love that God sent His only begotten Son to the cross to die for undeserving sinners. This agape love is different from “phelio” or brotherly love. For, brotherly love looks for a willing and receptive recipient. But agape love searches for the one who least deserves it. The one who will most likely reject it. It is truly amazing.

And it is with that love that God had filled the spirits of the Macedonia Believers. Though they lacked, they found joy in giving. Though they were in fierce troubles which had pushed them to their limit – they were happy. Their real selves were forced to the surface when they were crushed under the pressure of adversity. It is truly amazing how the Lord will allow adversity to come our way just so the oil of gladness can ooze out of us like a fountain of life.

It is good to know that when we are really vessels of God, it does not matter if the circumstances of life have broken us. For even in those times, the love of God will flow through us, and we can be a blessing to others.

If you are being pushed to your limit today, take courage. When you reach your limit and have nothing else to give, God will make it so that “the other giving simply flow[s] out of the purposes of God working in [your life].”

You Can Be Sure that He's Listening

1 John 5: 13

"My purpose in writing is simply this: that you who believe in God's Son will know beyond the shadow of a doubt that you have eternal life, the reality and not the illusion. 14And how bold and free we then become in his presence, freely asking according to his will, sure that he's listening. 15And if we're confident that he's listening, we know that what we've asked for is as good as ours."

There are times in every Believer’s life when it seems that God is not listening. It seems that He has forgotten us, or looked the other way for a minute and allowed disaster to creep in and overtake us. But the fact is that He does not sleep or slumber (Psalm 121:2-4). And he never forsakes us ((Psalm 9:10, Psalm 37:25, Psalm 37:28, Hebrews 13:5)). In fact, He has given angels charge to watch over those of us who will inherit eternal life (Hebrews 1:14). So, we can be sure that He is listening.

About a week ago, I was having “one of my moments”. God has been so faithful. He has never failed me. But, lately, the seasons of my life have grown more challenging. There are more disappointments. More heart breaks. More misunderstandings. So, one morning around 1:00 a.m., I found myself crying out to God and asking Him why He would not talk so that I could understand what He wanted from me. I told Him over and over again that I could not hear Him, so I could not trust that my next step would be in His will. I finally went to sleep that morning, and awoke in time to go to work. After I had been there for about an hour, my spiritual mom called me. She told me that she had just come out of prayer and that the Lord told her to ask me one question. The question that He asked through her was,
“Can you hear me now?”

Needless to say, I began weeping with joy. The Lord had heard my cry during the midnight hour, and had cared enough to let me know that He had heard me.

If you are doubting that God hears your prayers, focus on the promise that the apostle John gave us in today's text,
“14And how bold and free we then become in his presence, freely asking according to his will, sure that e's listening. 15And if we're confident that he's listening, we know that what we've asked for is as good as ours.”

In the Last Days

1My dear friends, this is now the second time I've written to you, both letters reminders to hold your minds in a state of undistracted attention. 2Keep in mind what the holy prophets said, and the command of our Master and Savior that was passed on by your apostles.
3First off, you need to know that in the last days, mockers are going to have a heyday. Reducing everything to the level of their puny feelings, 4they'll mock, "So what's happened to the promise of his Coming? Our ancestors are dead and buried, and everything's going on just as it has from the first day of creation. Nothing's changed."

5They conveniently forget that long ago all the galaxies and this very planet were brought into existence out of watery chaos by God's word. 6Then God's word brought the chaos back in a flood that destroyed the world. 7The current galaxies and earth are fuel for the final fire. God is poised, ready to speak his word again, ready to give the signal for the judgment and destruction of the desecrating skeptics.



The Day the Sky Will Collapse

8Don't overlook the obvious here, friends. With God, one day is as good as a thousand years, a thousand years as a day. 9God isn't late with his promise as some measure lateness. He is restraining himself on account of you, holding back the End because he doesn't want anyone lost. He's giving everyone space and time to change.
10But when the Day of God's Judgment does come, it will be unannounced, like a thief. The sky will collapse with a thunderous bang, everything disintegrating in a huge conflagration, earth and all its works exposed to the scrutiny of Judgment.

11Since everything here today might well be gone tomorrow, do you see how essential it is to live a holy life? 12Daily expect the Day of God, eager for its arrival. The galaxies will burn up and the elements melt down that day-- 13but we'll hardly notice. We'll be looking the other way, ready for the promised new heavens and the promised new earth, all landscaped with righteousness. 14So, my dear friends, since this is what you have to look forward to, do your very best to be found living at your best, in purity and peace. 15Interpret our Master's patient restraint for what it is: salvation. Our good brother Paul, who was given much wisdom in these matters, 16refers to this in all his letters, and has written you essentially the same thing. Some things Paul writes are difficult to understand. Irresponsible people who don't know what they are talking about twist them every which way. They do it to the rest of the Scriptures, too, destroying themselves as they do it.

17But you, friends, are well-warned. Be on guard lest you lose your footing and get swept off your feet by these lawless and loose-talking teachers. 18Grow in grace and understanding of our Master and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Don't Throw It All Away...Trust Him.

Deuteronomy 1:6, 19-21; 26-36

6 The LORD our God said to us at Horeb, "You have stayed long enough at this mountain.

19 Then, as the LORD our God commanded us, we set out from Horeb and went toward the hill country of the Amorites through all that vast and dreadful desert that you have seen, and so we reached Kadesh Barnea. 20 Then I said to you, "You have reached the hill country of the Amorites, which the LORD our God is giving us. 21 See, the LORD your God has given you the land. Go up and take possession of it as the LORD, the God of your fathers, told you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."

26 But you were unwilling to go up; you rebelled against the command of the LORD your God. 27 You grumbled in your tents and said, "The LORD hates us; so he brought us out of Egypt to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us. 28 Where can we go? Our brothers have made us lose heart. They say, 'The people are stronger and taller than we are; the cities are large, with walls up to the sky. We even saw the Anakites there.' "
29 Then I said to you, "Do not be terrified; do not be afraid of them. 30 The LORD your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, 31 and in the desert. There you saw how the LORD your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place."
32 In spite of this, you did not trust in the LORD your God, 33 who went ahead of you on your journey, in fire by night and in a cloud by day, to search out places for you to camp and to show you the way you should go.
34 When the LORD heard what you said, he was angry and solemnly swore: 35 "Not a man of this evil generation shall see the good land I swore to give your forefathers, 36 except Caleb son of Jephunneh. He will see it, and I will give him and his descendants the land he set his feet on, because he followed the LORD wholeheartedly."


There is so much that the Lord desires to give His children. But our inheritance rarely comes without opposition. In today’s text, the Lord had decided to move Israel from a good place to a better place. He was ready to fulfill the promise that he had made to Abraham, and bless his seed with the promised land. But Israel, like so many of us, focused on the opposition, and lost courage. In spite of the fact that God had been so faithful in the past, they could not muster up enough trust in Him to believe that He would triumphantly carry them on the remainder of their journey.

Today, I can relate. After many years of believing God, He has finally brought me to the place of inheritance. I was really excited until Satan reared his ugly head. After opposition began to surface, I became overwhelmed and wanted to disinherit myself. Though I expected opposition, I never expected the enemy to show up as he has. If you can relate, I want to pray for you. Out of my own need for courage and strength, I am going to believe that God will grant you the same. We must know in our hearts that God is more than capable, and that we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:36-39) through Him. Just know that He did not bring us to this place to leave us.

Father, we come to you today asking for your grace. For in this place where we find ourselves, we realize that our next step is very crucial. If we walk away from the Promise, we realize that though You love us, we may forfeit the opportunity to be used by You in a mighty way. However, if we walk toward your Promise, we know that there are many days of pain, loneliness, and fear. So Father, we come asking for the strength that You provide to those who come humbly before You. I pray for my sisters and brothers who are standing at this crucial place, and pray that You would show them the “cloud and the fire” so that they will know that You are there with them, and will go ahead of them to prepare the way that they must take in order to remain in Your perfect will. Thank You for hearing us, Father as we call on You for strength and direction.
Amen.

2 Samuel 2:4,9


4 "The bows of the warriors are broken,
but those who stumbled are armed with strength.

9 He will guard the feet of his saints,
but the wicked will be silenced in darkness.
"It is not by strength that one prevails;



This week, someone came to me very discouraged. She was upset because she responded to a situation in anger instead of with grace. She indicated that she had repented, but that she was “tired” of stumbling. She wanted to walk a straight, sinless path. She wanted to win the battle against her flesh without ever making a mistake. This is such an honorable a desire. But what we must all understand is that “It is not by strength that one prevails.” We don’t win this battle against the flesh by our might. But it is by the very Hand of God that our feet are strengthened to walk such a narrow path. My advice to her was to stop trying to be perfect, and just allow the Holy Spirit to order her steps. For it is then, that strength will come from God, and gird her up during her weakest moments (2 Corinthians 12:9).

In today’s text, we find that the weapons of mighty warriors (those who trusted in their own strength)had been destroyed by the Lord, but those persons who were weak and those persons who had stumbled, had been granted strength from His Arm. I love the Lord because He watches our feet as we walk just as a parent watches his or her baby’s first steps. If you have given your life to Christ, please understand that God’s love follows hard after you. He watches over His word to ensure that it performs what He wills (Jeremiah 1:12). A few fumbles and stumbles on your part will not cancel His plans for your life (Proverbs 24:16). Just be sure to allow Him to direct your path (without leaning to your own understanding or efforts), and you will eventually make it to the finished line and win the prize of the higher calling in Christ (Philippians 3:14).




God's Love Brings Peace and Comfort

Jeremiah 29:1-2, 4-14

A Letter to the Exiles
1 This is the text of the letter that the prophet Jeremiah sent from Jerusalem to the surviving elders among the exiles and to the priests, the prophets and all the other people Nebuchadnezzar had carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon. 2 (This was after King Jehoiachin [a] and the queen mother, the court officials and the leaders of Judah and Jerusalem, the craftsmen and the artisans had gone into exile from Jerusalem.)
4 This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: 5 "Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. 6 Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. 7 Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper." 8 Yes, this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: "Do not let the prophets and diviners among you deceive you. Do not listen to the dreams you encourage them to have. 9 They are prophesying lies to you in my name. I have not sent them," declares the LORD.
10 This is what the LORD says: "When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place. 11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile."



When I was a child, I used to think of God as being a grandfather who sat on His throne with big stick. I believed that He was just waiting for me to mess up so that He could "whack" me. I knew nothing about the grace, mercy, and the love of God. But now, I am learning that His love is like nothing that I have ever known or experienced. And, even though God’s love is so wonderful, we must remain mindful that God exercises judgment with the same passionate intensity with which He loves. Therefore, judgment of disobedience is a sure thing!

In today’s text, we learn that the former inhabitants of Judah were being held captive in Babylon. Like their brethren in Israel, the inhabitants of Judah worshiped idols, and failed to obey the Lord. Israel had already been sent into Assyrian captivity for their disobedience, but Judah did not learn from her sister’s mistakes. So, the Lord sent Jeremiah to warn them that God was going to punish them, too, if they did not repent. This was no easy job for Jeremiah. For the people hated him and refused to heed his warnings. So, God allowed the Babylonians to invade and capture them. While in captivity, false prophets rose up and told them that God would release them within two years. But this was not so. So, the Lord sent Jeremiah to remind them that He had promised them seventy years of captivity. (No wonder Jeremiah was hated by the people– he always had bad news for them.) But not only was Jeremiah to bring a message of doom, he was also instructed to bring a promise of restoration.

When you read this passage of scripture, you get a glimpse of God’s relentless love. Here we have a situation where people were getting the punishment that they deserved. But during that dark time, God sent them encouragement. Notice what He told them to do:

“5 Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. 6 Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. 7 Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper."


In other words, God told them to keep their strength, keep increasing, and pray for and expect peace. He encouraged them to prosper during this difficult time because He was surely going to bring them out of it. Does this encourage you today? In the midst of darkness, God told His people to persevere and prosper because He had great plans for them. In the midst of times of depression, home-sickness, loss, humiliation, gloom and doom, God sent a word to His disobedient children and told them to get ready to be blessed. To get a better understanding of what this must have been like for them, just imagine being a child who is sitting in “time out”, and your parent comes and begins to tell you about how much fun you will have when your “time out” is over. Your hope for a better day, gives you the strength that you need in order to survive the dark days.

This revelation was such an encouragement to me because God has not promised us that we will have sunny days all of the time (even when we are obedient). But He has promised to deliver us out of all that we go through. (Psalm 34:19)

I have never seen anything like the love of God. While they were in captivity, God was looking forward to the day when they would be able to return home and worship Him again. Because He is just and righteous, He must honor His own word, and whether we like it or not, disobedience brings disappointment. But, If you find yourself in the midst of a dark season due to disobedience, (or just because it is your time to experience such a season), I pray that you would find comfort in knowing that God’s love is like nothing that you could ever imagine. Right now, at this very moment, He is looking forward to the day when you are fully restored so that He can fulfill His plan for your life. So, its okay to get excited in advance. For He will fulfill His promises to you.

A Prisoner for a Purpose

Acts 26:32
"Agrippa said to Festus, "This man could have been set free if he had not appealed to Caesar."

Have you ever done something that you later regretted? Have you ever been real close to freedom or relief from oppression, but watched it leave your grasp because of something that you said or did? If so, join the club. There have been times when life could have been sweeter for me “if only I hadn’t…(fill in the blank).” In today’s text, we see that the Apostle Paul almost became a free man. When Paul was being examined by Festus and Agrippa, he requested to be dealt with as a Roman, so he appealed to Caesar. After being interviewed by King Agrippa, he was found not worthy of his punishment. He had done nothing wrong. And King Agrippa even stated that he would have set him free if only Paul had not asked to speak to Caesar. If only Paul had not asked to speak to Caesar, he would have been released from the chains of imprisonment. Paul would have been a free man.

To many, it may have seemed that Paul messed up. But in fact, Paul willingly remained in chains so that he could continue to further the cause of Christ. While on the way to see Caesar, Paul was involved in a shipwreck where no harm came to the others on the ship because of the calling on Paul’s life. Paul had seen an angel while on the ship, who told him that he must come before Caesar. Others were blessed by his presence. When Paul arrived at his destination, he was given the opportunity to remain in his own house and preach the Gospel to all who came by. The Bible records it this way:

For two whole years Paul stayed
there in his own rented house
and welcomed all who came to see
him. Boldly and without
hindrance he preached the
kingdom of God and taught about
the Lord Jesus Christ. (Acts
28:30-31)

I can imagine that it would have been more convenient to preach the Gospel on his own terms. But because Paul was a slave of the Gospel, he understood the importance of remaining in those God-ordained chains. His passion was to preach to the lost sheep of Israel. For that cause, Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:19, “Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.” Also, in 1 Corinthians 7:22, he said, “For he who was a slave when he was called by the Lord is the Lord's freedman; similarly, he who was a free man when he was called is Christ's slave.” You see, Paul enslaved himself for the sake of the Gospel. And because he remained obedient to the Spirit’s leading, he was able to teach and preach “boldly and without hindrance”.

Today, I invite you to take a second look at that regrettable thing that you did or said under the unction of the Holy Spirit. Perhaps you accepted a speaking engagement, and the majority did not receive you well. Or maybe you extended a helping hand to someone who "bit" it. Whatever the case, if you were obeying the Spirit, your action should not be regretted. If your action has opened up an opportunity for the Gospel to be shared, or has allowed others to be blessed, be encouraged. For being a slave is not always comfortable and it is definitely not convenient. But it is always prosperous. Jesus said, "and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.” (Mark 10:44)

28:22-23

22 In his time of trouble King Ahaz became even more unfaithful to the LORD. 23 He offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus, who had defeated him; for he thought, "Since the gods of the kings of Aram have helped them, I will sacrifice to them so they will help me." But they were his downfall and the downfall of all Israel.

There are those who are having a difficult time with life. Nothing seems to be going right. And in an effort to ease their pain, they try to find comfort in all sorts of things. Some drink, some overeat, and some use sex as a form of comfort. But none of these things will lead to deliverance. None will lead to peace. In fact, they lead to further grief.

In our text, King Ahaz, who was stricken by God because of his disobedience and worship of idols, “became even more unfaithful to the LORD” during his time of trouble. His disobedience was the cause of his troubles, yet he refused to repent and seek help from the only One who could deliver him from turmoil and torment. I know that there are times when innocent people suffer. But in many cases, we suffer because we have failed to remain in God’s perfect will for our lives. You see, God has a permissive will where His love will cover us when we “miss the mark”, but there is a perfect will that leads us into a place where blessings are abundantly showered upon us. It is here that we are no longer considered to be servants, but sons and daughters of God (Galatians 4:6-8).

Today, if you are suffering because of sin, don’t go deeper into it. It will eventually lead to death. But lift up your arms, and surrender your will to the One who loves you more than you can imagine. He is waiting with outstretched arms to deliver you, and to bless you.

Here are some scriptures that may encourage you to come home and find rest in the heart of God:

Isaiah 57:15
For this is what the high and lofty One says— he who lives forever, whose name is holy: "I live in a high and holy place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.

Isaiah 66:2
Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?" declares the LORD. "This is the one I esteem: he who is humble and contrite in spirit, and trembles at my word.

Psalm 25:10-12 (New International Version)
10 All the ways of the LORD are loving and faithful for those who keep the demands of his covenant. 11 For the sake of your name, O LORD, forgive my iniquity, though it is great. 12 Who, then, is the man that fears the LORD ? He will instruct him in the way chosen for him.

Proverbs 25:4

"Take away the dross from silver, and it will go to the silversmith for jewelry."

The Bible tells us how the LORD sent the prophet, Jeremiah (18:1-4), down to the potter’s house to see the vessel that was being made on the wheel. We are told that the vessel became marred in the potter’s hand while it was being made, so he made it over again into a vessel that pleased him. I have always been encouraged by this Biblical account because it let me know two things: (1) God keeps us in His Hands, even when we are less than perfect, and (2) if God finds imperfections in us while we are being formed into His image, He doesn’t mind starting over from scratch.

King Solomon also shed light on this subject, using metal as the medium. In today’s text, he says, “take away the dross from silver, and it will go to the silversmith for jewelry.” This, too, is encouraging because many of us have discovered that we have imperfections. But God has not given up on us. Here is the process for melting metal:

  • Before metal is formed, it must be placed into a furnace. During this phase, it is melted from solid into liquid form. (It may have even been scraps from something that once served a different purpose.)

  • When it is removed from the furnace as a liquid, it is possible that impurities have surfaced in the form of scum (dross). These impurities were once deeply embedded in the metal, but were released when the metal changed its form.

  • If scum (dross) appears, it is removed and forwarded to the silversmith to be poured into a form that produces a specific vessel that will serve a specific purpose.



Perhaps you have just come out of a trial that has disclosed some less than perfect qualities about you. This is great! This is exactly what the trial was intended to reveal – your imperfections (James 1:2-4). The trial was supposed to cause your impurities to be released from you . You see, only God knows the heart of man. He searches us using our spirits (Proverbs 20:27, 1 Corinthians 2:11). So, He knows better than we, what resides in us. Our hearts are so deceptive (Jeremiah 17:9)that we have been successful at lying to ourselves on many occasions. But we cannot deceive God. The good news is that God will not throw us away because imperfections have surfaced. He will remove the imperfections if we submit to Him and His will for our lives (1 John 1:9). After the impurities (dross) have been removed, He will send us further along according to our purpose so that we can be formed into vessels that will be fit to adorn the Kingdom of God.

Be encouraged if you are in this situation today. God already knew what was in you when He allowed you to go through His refining fire. So, He will not leave you with the dross. He is with you throughout the entire process (Hebrews 13:5b). In fact, it is He who has meticulously designed the particular process that will mold you into a vessel of honor.

Rev 22:11-17 Jesus Testifies to the Churches


He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous[a] still; he who is holy, let him be holy still."

12"And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. 13I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last."
14Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. 15But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.

I don’t know why it surprised me, but London reported that there were four more bomb explosions on yesterday. The times in which we live demand that every person becomes sure of his or her eternal destiny. Jesus has invited each of us to spend forever with Him. Unfortunately, tomorrow is not promised to any of us on this earth, but eternity is a sure bet. We will all live somewhere forever! We will either live in the torment of the lake of fire (Revelation 20:14-16), or we will live in the Presence of God (Revelations 21:3-5).

Death is as much a part of life as breathing (Ecclesiastes 3:1-3). We take time out to make preparation for our physical remains. Why do we neglect to purchase eternal life insurance for our spiritual remains? Many of us have purchased life insurance policies that will provide for our burials and our survivors. But we are not ensuring that we have accepted Jesus as our Savior – God’s eternal life insurance policy (1 John 5:11-13).

As much as we try, we cannot control the actions of others. If someone, with no regard for his own life, chooses to strap a bomb to his body, board public transportation, and end innocent lives (as well as his own), there is not much that we can do about that. This has become an unfortunate reality. But there is hope for you today if you know Jesus as your personal Savior. You have the blessed assurance that you will never have to be in the presence of such evil again. His promise is that He is coming “quickly”, and that His reward is with Him. Although I get a little uneasy when I consider that anything could happen at any minute, I am comforted when I realize that after I depart this life, I will begin the remainder of my life in the Presence of the Lord where no hurt or harm will ever threaten my peace again.

If you have not accepted Jesus as your Personal Savior, follow the Roman Road and learn how desperately the Lord wants you to come to Him (2 Peter 3:9).




Don't Press the Panic Button! God's Got it Under Control

Proverbs 21:12


The righteous God wisely considers the house of the wicked, Overthrowing the wicked for their wickedness.

This morning, I awoke with a spirit of heaviness upon me. I have been believing God for a breakthrough, and sometimes, the waiting period from the promise to the fulfillment can seem to be so long. I know that in times like this, I must encourage myself in the Word, sing unto the Lord, pray, fast, and continue to believe God. But some strongholds are much harder to break than others. However, God has a way of reminding us that He is on His job. He let’s us know that He has not forgotten, and that the innocence of the righteous will “shine like the dawn” (Psalm 37).

This morning, my youngest daughter came in the room while I was preparing for work. She began to talk about Esther. And she asked the question, “Did Esther know that Haaman was plotting to kill the Jews?” I answered her, and let her know that she did not, but God knew, and strategically placed her in the position to crush his plans. Instantly, a light went off in my spirit. The Lord spoke and said, “And I knew about the plot that you are facing before you knew about it, too.” When I heard Him, I had to thank my daughter for starting this conversation. She has no idea of how God used her little vessel, this morning.

King Solomon wrote that God “wisely considers the house of the wicked”. He knows exactly what they are plotting in secret, and He has already made a way of escape for those of us who love Him. He will overthrow the wicked in due season.

Be encouraged, today, if you are waiting on the Lord to deal with your enemies. He has everything under control. You just remain calm.

Psalm 119:19

“I am a stranger in the earth;
Do not hide Your commandments from me.”


If you have ever traveled in unfamiliar territory, you know how important a simple map, or directions from a kind stranger, can be. While on your journey, you must trust that these travel aids will help you arrive at your point of destination. It is the same way with Believers. When we accepted Jesus as our Savior, we forfeited our citizenship in the kingdom of darkness. We have been redeemed, and seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:6). We have become strangers in the earth. When speaking of Abraham, the Bible says that he was a sojourner looking for a city whose builder and maker is God (Hebrews 11:08-10;13-16). And so are we, if we are really in Christ. If we are going to have a successful journey, we must rely on the direction given in God’s Word. You see, now that we are no longer of this world, we will be hated by the citizens of this world, and they will give us the wrong directions. (Sometimes, on purpose, and sometimes because they don't know the way to our destination). If we follow them, we will never find our way. Jesus said these words when praying to the Father:

14I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. 15My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17Sanctify[a] them by the truth; your word is truth. (John 17:14-17)

So, we cannot rely on the citizens of this world to give us the proper directions. They are only familiar with the ways of this world, so the things of God are unfamiliar to them (1 Corinthians 2:14). That is why we must be careful about the friends we keep, and the counsel that we receive. Remember that the fool says in his heart that there is no God (Psalm 14:1). So, Proverbs 24:7, reminds us that one who denies God in his heart, cannot give us wise counsel. But, there is hope. God has promised us that if we acknowledge Him, He will give us the proper directions (Proverbs 3:5-6). Not only does He know the way, but He is the Way (John 14:6). If you need help finding your way, acknowledge your Savior. Seek Him for the answers that you need. Consult with those who know the Word of God and the power of prayer. For, the Lord knows the plans that He has for you (Jeremiah 29:11), and the way that you should take.

Elijah Flees to Horeb
19:1 Now Ahab told Jezebel everything Elijah had done and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. 2 So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah to say, "May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like that of one of them."
3 Elijah was afraid [b] and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, 4 while he himself went a day's journey into the desert. He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. "I have had enough, LORD," he said. "Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors." 5 Then he lay down under the tree and fell asleep.
All at once an angel touched him and said, "Get up and eat." 6 He looked around, and there by his head was a cake of bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again.
7 The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him and said, "Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you." 8 So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. 9 There he went into a cave and spent the night.

The LORD Appears to Elijah
And the word of the LORD came to him: "What are you doing here, Elijah?"
10 He replied, "I have been very zealous for the LORD God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, broken down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too."
11 The LORD said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by."
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
Then a voice said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"
14 He replied, "I have been very zealous for the LORD God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, broken down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too."
15 The LORD said to him, "Go back the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus. When you get there, anoint Hazael king over Aram. 16 Also, anoint Jehu son of Nimshi king over Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah to succeed you as prophet. 17 Jehu will put to death any who escape the sword of Hazael, and Elisha will put to death any who escape the sword of Jehu. 18 Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel—all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and all whose mouths have not kissed him."


This past weekend, I decided that I would hide from my enemies, and cease from doing any ministry work. I had become tired of fighting the enemy. All I have ever wanted to do since the Lord called my name was, please Him by responding, “Yes, Lord” to His requests. But this weekend, I went to my Lord, and I told Him, I am sitting down. I am tired. I spent that entire evening lying prostrate on the floor, seeking an audience with Him. But, all through the night, the Holy Spirit reminded me of Elijah, and how he, too, tried to hide when Jezebel sent her threats his way. After victoriously defeating 450 false prophets (1 Kings 18), Elijah let the voice of one ungodly woman discourage him. God spoke to Elijah, called him out of the cave, and sent him on his next assignment. And, likewise, the Lord reminded me that hiding was not the answer.

When I woke up on Sunday morning, I prayed for the strength to attend worship service. I really did not feel like fellowshipping with the Saints. I am just being honest. Sometimes, I would rather be alone with the Lord and sulk. (Warning: Don’t try this at home). I wanted to spend the day pleading my case before the Lord. You know, telling HIM why I deserved the right to quit. (We are so silly, sometimes.) But, He strengthened me, and I was able to attend service.

When the Pastor began the sermon by telling the congregation to turn to 1 Kings 19, I started shaking my head in unbelief. God had told on me! He had directed His servant to preach the same message that He had preached to me the night before. Isn’t God amazing? But this time, the Lord spoke through the Pastor and said, “The safest place in the whole wide world is in the will of God.” I had run to my “cave” for safety. I thought that being out of the line of fire would grant me the peace that I was seeking, but, just like Elijah found out, safety was not in a physical hiding place, but in a spiritual place (the will of God).

Jesus’ disciples discovered this important priniciple in John 18:1-9. Jesus had promised that not one of those who had been placed in His care by His Father, would be lost (John 17:6-12; John 6:39). Not one of them! So when the soldiers and officials came to arrest Him, Jesus surrendered Himself, and demanded that His sheep be spared. Why? - Because they were in the will of God. It was God’s will that they would receive the Holy Spirit and become witnesses of the Son of God (Acts 1:7-8). They HAD to spread the Gospel, so they could not die. It was God's will that they remain alive in order to fulfill their purpose in the upcoming season.

Today, if you are trembling in fear because of the adversary, don’t hide by quitting. By all means, get some rest. But then, get up, seek God’s Face, and get in His will. It is truly the safest place in the whole wide world.

Small, But Mighty in God!

1 Samuel 15:17

Samuel said, "Although you were once small in your own eyes, did you not become the head of the tribes of Israel? The LORD anointed you king over Israel.


God is amazing. He has a way of choosing the “least likely” to accomplish the “most impossible”. In our text today, Samuel is rebuking King Saul for failing to completely obey God. And while rebuking him, he touches on a truth to which many of us can relate. He reminded him that while he was “small in [his] own eyes”, God anointed him. When he thought himself to be "nothing", God made him "something". (True, God only anointed him because the people asked for a king, but don't miss the point that God can use those of us who feel that we are unimportant or insignificant.) What a powerful revelation for those of us who feel unworthy and unimportant in the household of faith! You see, at a time when Saul thought little of himself, God smeared His Presence on him, and called him to leadership over His very own beloved, Israel; the very apple of His eye (Zechariah 2:7-9).

Does knowing this fact, deliver you from the spirit of low self-esteem? I sure hope so, because, our God is amazing. His ways are sooooooooo different from our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9). Paul puts it this way to the Corinthian Believers:


25For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength. 26Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. (1 Corinthians)


My dear sister or brother in Christ, Jesus declared that “we shall know the truth, and the truth shall make us free” (John 8:30-33). I encourage you to apply this truth that you now know, to your own situation, today. You may not have the college degree that you desire, or you may not know the Bible as well as others, or you may even be homeless, but none of these things matters to God. For the scripture declares that He chooses “the weak things of the world to shame the strong.” The way I see it, not only is God on a mission to prove that He can destroy Satan’s stronghold on mankind, but He is going to prove that He can do it with “weak” and less than perfect vessels. What a blow to the kingdom of darkness!

Let’s Us All Come To Worship Him!

1 Corinthians 14:26

“What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church.”


Oh, how I would have loved to be present at the worship services that were held by the early Church. I can imagine the excitement; the joy; the fellowship (Acts 2:44-47)! I can see Peter standing up and sharing about his one-on-one experiences with Jesus. I can see Thomas describing the holes that he saw in his risen Savior’s hands. I can see new converts springing out of their seats to tell of new revelations and encounters with the Lord. And I can only imagine the worship songs that poured out of their spirits as the Holy Spirit gave them utterance and “new songs” (Psalm 144:9). I would love to have been a part of that true worship experience.

In many of our modern worship services, (and I use that term lightly when compared with those of the early church), we seem to have become programmatic. We know who will read the announcements, and we know who will sing the opening hymn. And we even know who will deliver the message for the day. Now don't misunderstand. Order is necessary in the House of God, but it should never hinder the move of the Spirit. In our text, and in the remainder of chapter 14 of 1 Corinthians, Paul describes the proper order of service. And what stands out to me, the most, is how he said that “everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation”. Not just certain individuals, but everyone. Everyone came prepared to be used of God. Some were used to pour forth new songs; some were used to teach; some shared revelation that they had received; and some were able to interpret revelation that was being brought forth through tongues. What an awesome idea! Just think - worship service was about worshiping God, and letting Him have total control. Oh, how my soul longs to be a part of such a thing ((Psalm 134:1-2).


In my heart, I believe that God is calling the Church back to total reliance upon the Holy Spirit. I believe that He has proven to us that when we do things our own way, we don’t do too well. We always fall short of what He desires for us. I believe that even our children will be used of God to bring forth true worship and edification.

Today, I ask you to join me in praying to the Father, and asking for direction for the Body of Christ. Of course, there will be resistance, because it will be different from what we have been programmed to do. But just know that every time you read in a church program that “The order of service is subject to change by the direction of the Holy Spirit”,it is most possible!


Father,
Please help us comprehend the meaning of true worship. Please teach us how to prepare for worship service, long before we arrive at church. Place it on each of our hearts to come to church, ready to be worship leaders – ready to do the part that you have assigned to us. Your Spirit dwells in every Believer, and is able to lead us into true worship without someone telling us what to do via a preprinted program. So, we ask that You would give every Believer the revelation that, if no one formally stands up to initiate praise and worship, it is the responsibility of every Believer to be prepared to share the worship experience that is taking place within himself/ herself. Amen.

Has the Church Forgotten Its First Love?

1 Corinthians 13

Love


1If I speak in the tongues[a] of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,[b] but have not love, I gain nothing.
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.


We are all guilty. We are all guilty of memorizing verses, but not really gleaning from the principles, therein. For example, do we really understand how much God loves us, and longs for our love, in return? I really don’t think that we do. We spend so much time judging one another, and putting people out of our fellowships, that we have forgotten that we were called to reconcile sinners to God (2 Corinthians 5:18-20). After I got saved, "church people" made me feel so unaccepted that I eventually left the church, and sought God on my own. During my absence, I met God for real. I heard Him for myself. I saw miracles. I received healing directly from His Hand.

While away from church, Charles Stanley was the only pastor that I had. He was my tele-pastor, and he was just what I needed (1 Corinthians 4:10-17). I got saved at a church where the pastor was extremely judgmental, controlling, and condemning (1 Peter 5:2-4). It is amazing that I was even able to receive salvation while there. But the Holy Spirit has a way of finding you wherever you may be. As a new Believer, I was on fire. I was excited. I was in love with God! But, there was no one there to nurture my excitement and hunger. So, the Lord allowed me to leave, and drew me unto Himself (We must never judge people who do not come to church. We must pray and ask why our churches are not meeting their needs. God will give direction.)
While attending “television church” in my own living room, the Spirit of God began to teach me about God’s grace and love. Even though I had accepted His salvation, I did not know that He loved me. Love was not taught to me when I first accepted Jesus. Love was not shown to me by the others in the church. They taught me religion, songs, and protocol. I always felt afraid that God would “get me” if I stepped out of place. What a terrible way to live! (Many pastors have delivered their flocks from the bondage of sin, only to enslave them to religious fear.) When I finally realized that it was not true that God was waiting to "get me", I was released to accept His love, and to love people with His love. God has given me a floppy old heart. It loves everybody! I even love people who don’t like me. I even love people who mistreat me. I could never explain before, but now I know what, or should I say, Who, it is. It is not I, but the Spirit of God who loves so relentlessly through every Believer who has yielded himself.

In Luke 6:27-36, Jesus told His disciples to love their enemies, and to do good to those that hated them. This makes absolutely no sense to the natural mind (1 Corinthians 2:14). But, it makes perfect sense to the child of God who allows the Spirit of Christ, Who is Love, to have full reign of his life.

In our text, the Apostle Paul describes how True Love looks. He said that:
1. Love is patient
2. love is kind
3. Love does not envy
4. Love does not boast
5. Love is not proud.
6. Love is not rude
7. Love is not self-seeking
8. Love is not easily angered
9. Love keeps no record of wrongs
10. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth
11. Love always protects
12. Love always trusts
13. Love always hopes
14. Love always perseveres.
15. Love never fails.

Then, Paul goes on to say that all of the ministry gifts will one day cease, but love will always be necessary, and will always exist. When we are spending eternity with Jesus, it will not be necessary to prophesy, or to heal the sick, or to preach sermons. But love will continue to be shared amongst the family of God.

If you are serving God in any capacity, make sure that your motive is to “love Hell out of people”. Your goal should not be to get accolades, or to get more members, or to fulfill some religious or traditional obligation to man. Your goal should always be to allow the Holy Spirit to pour out His love on the objects of His desire (Romans 2:4). And if you have a floppy old heart like mine, it’s okay. Just let God use it to share His love.

Darkness Has No Power Over the Righteous

Psalm 112


1 Praise the LORD. Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who finds great delight in his commands.
2 His children will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches are in his house,
and his righteousness endures forever.
4 Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man.
5 Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts his affairs with justice.
6 Surely he will never be shaken;
a righteous man will be remembered forever.
7 He will have no fear of bad news;
his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.
8 His heart is secure, he will have no fear;
in the end he will look in triumph on his foes.
9 He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor, his righteousness endures forever;
his horn will be lifted high in honor.
10 The wicked man will see and be vexed,
he will gnash his teeth and waste away;
the longings of the wicked will come to nothing.


About two weeks ago, the Lord spoke to me in a dream (in case you haven’t figured it out by now, the Lord speaks to me in dreams quite often). And in this dream, my husband and I were alone, when all of a sudden, a third party entered the room and started turning out lights. At first, we were helping [it], but then it became apparent that this was a foul spirit who was sent to put us in the dark. It seemed that for every light that was turned off, there appeared another lamp or light source. Then, after this spirit managed to turn off the last light, we noticed that ordinary items in the room started illuminating. The last thing that I remember seeing before being awakened from the dream was a small bowl that sat on the edge of a dresser. It started glowing. It emitted enough light to keep us out of total darkness, and to show us the path that led out of the room.

When I woke up, I was concerned, but only briefly. For, what I had just received from the Lord was reassurance. He told me that though an enemy was at work to destroy our ministry, or “snuff us out”, if you will, He would make sure that the Light never went out.

In verse 4 of our text today, the psalmist writes, “Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man.” I thank God for this confirmation, because, the mandate on our ministry is to “love the Hell out of people”. There are those who judge us and say that we tolerate too much. But, we are not tolerating sin, we are just outlasting and outloving it. In our personal lives, each of us was ostracized by the church. However, God overlooked our faults and saw our needs. He heard our innermost cries, and delivered us. And not only that, but He has mandated us to reconcile sinners, and backslidden Saints, to Him using the same love that He showered on us.

I am grateful to God on this day that He, through His Word, has validated all of us who have compassionate and tender hearts. To the world, and even to some Saints, we look like wimps who will ultimately be defeated by the enemy. But God has made sure promises that the righteous need not fear anything. He will bless us with the victory. Today, I encourage you to remember:

"7 He will have no fear of bad news;
his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.
8 His heart is secure, he will have no fear;
in the end he will look in triumph on his foes."

Love is the Answer to every question because it will outlast everything. It will never fail (Lamentation 3:21-23, 1 Corinthians 13)!

Love Will Lead Them Back

2 Corinthians 11:1-15


Paul and the False Apostles
1I hope you will put up with a little of my foolishness; but you are already doing that. 2I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him. 3But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 4For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough. 5But I do not think I am in the least inferior to those "super-apostles." 6I may not be a trained speaker, but I do have knowledge. We have made this perfectly clear to you in every way.
7Was it a sin for me to lower myself in order to elevate you by preaching the gospel of God to you free of charge? 8I robbed other churches by receiving support from them so as to serve you. 9And when I was with you and needed something, I was not a burden to anyone, for the brothers who came from Macedonia supplied what I needed. I have kept myself from being a burden to you in any way, and will continue to do so. 10As surely as the truth of Christ is in me, nobody in the regions of Achaia will stop this boasting of mine. 11Why? Because I do not love you? God knows I do! 12And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about. 13For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. 14And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.


I am the mother of a teenaged daughter. (Yes, I know. You may send your sympathy cards to me using our P.O. Box). And one day, she told me that she wished that a more lenient friend of ours was her mother, instead of me. Needless to say, this crushed me. I may not be the best, but I am a mother who fears God. And because of that, I try to protect my children from seen and unseen dangers.

I believe that my daughter can understand why I want her to look both ways when crossing the street, and why I don’t want her talking to strangers on the internet, and why I don’t want her to use drugs. But she has a hard time understanding why I won’t allow her to watch certain television shows, or befriend certain people, or listen to certain songs, or wear her clothes a certain way, or spend the night at certain people’s homes. In her opinion, I am “cramping her style”. Up until her declaration of dissatisfaction, I believed that I was a “with it” kind of Mom. I had always directed youth ministries, so I had been up to date with the latest slang and fads. So, this totally took me by surprise. But then, as usual, God comforted me with His Word. He showed me that the Apostle Paul was a spiritual father who faced the same situation. Paul had spiritual children who were easily enticed by “Super Apostles” who had a more muted gospel than the Gospel of power and holiness.

Paul addressed this problem when he wrote to the Corinthians. He told them that they had a three-fold problem:
1. “For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or
2. if you receive a different spirit from the one you received,
3. or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.”

To sum it up, Paul told them that they were easily deceived because they were so willing to accept something other than what they had first learned. When approached, they would accept a different Jesus, or a different spirit, or a different gospel. How dangerous!

I hate to admit it, but I saw the same signs in my daughter. If something seemed to be more exciting or easier than what we exposed her to, she was ready to run after that. She was ready to accept different parents, a different lifestyle, and a different set of rules and standards just to satisfy her desires. Her level of maturity and experience was not high enough for her to understand that by running from a God-fearing home, she would eventually run into a life of pain; and maybe even death.

And just like with my daughter, and the Corinthian church of yester years, so it is with God’s sheep in this day and time. Many are easily deceived because they are so eager to part from the foundational truths. Unfortunately, many cannot stand God’s Truth as it is written. So, they find leaders who work to pacify them instead of working to purify them. If you are called to a leadership position in the ministry during these latter days, you have quite a task before you. Some days, it seems like the sheep are suffering from “Mad Cow” Disease. They are running all around and acting like they have never been exposed to God's Word!

We are living in a time when people are not enduring sound doctrine (2 Timothy 4:3-4). Many receive the Word of salvation and edification for a season, but quickly discard it when it becomes inconvenient (Mark 4:1-23). And, in order to satisfy their “religious” duties, they find leaders who will scratch their “itching ears” with watered down doctrines and a muted version of holiness. There are even leaders who have believed the lie of Satan, and are calling, clean what God has called abominable, and calling abominable what God has called clean. Today, the sheep are being deceived so easily because they are falling prey to the world’s enticements and offers of immediate satisfaction and pleasure. While the true preachers and prophets are being commissioned to preach holiness, obedience, and sacrifice, the “Super Apostles” are preaching prosperity. Saints are running to these sanctuaries of satisfaction in droves because, there, they are being deceived into believing that they can live in carnality, and still reap the benefits of being faithful servants. This is simply not so! How can we prosper, while being in a state of disobedience? This is contrary to God’s Word .(Romans 6:16, Ephesians 2:1-5, Ephesians 5:5-7, Hebrews 3:12-4:1, John 15:9-11).


So, what are God-fearing leaders to do in such times? How do we, who are called to preach and teach the unadulterated Truth, stay encouraged? Well, we must stay focused and we must be relentless in sharing God’s Heart.

With my own daughter, the Lord directed me to invite her to a worship service where only the Holy Spirit, she and I would be in attendance. We had the sanctuary to ourselves. During our 90-minute service, she read scripture, and I preached God’s love, (and my love), to her. As she listened, she began to weep and ask God to change her. Today, I have the respect and trust of my daughter. She understands that I love her, but more important, she understands that God loves her and has a major plan for her life. Now, she can also see the hidden dangers that abide in rebellion and disobedience.

If you are a ministry leader faced with the "creeping sheep" problem today, I encourage you to do the same. Spend time with those sheep who have a tendency to peer over the fence. Put the Word in their hands and let them read it for themselves. Pray with them. Cry with them. Intercede for them. And watch the Holy Spirit begin to show them the love of Christ. True, there are times when rebuke is necessary. But I have found that when true sheep really understand the Father’s Heart, they can’t help but love Him back.

To See or Not to See? - That is the Question

Mark 8:22-26

The Healing of a Blind Man at Bethsaida

22They came to Bethsaida, and some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him. 23He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the man's eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, "Do you see anything?"
24He looked up and said, "I see people; they look like trees walking around."
25Once more Jesus put his hands on the man's eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. 26Jesus sent him home, saying, "Don't go into the village.[a]"


In today’s text, Jesus restored sight to a blind man. But what is so interesting is that He removed the man and took him to another location before He healed Him. Scripture tells us that many miracles had been done in Bethsaida, but God was not pleased with the response of the citizens. In Matthew 11:21, we learn that, though God had performed miraculous signs before the people, they were not moved to repentance. I even surmise that those who begged Jesus to heal this particular blind man, had dragged the poor soul into Bethsaida; hoping only to be spectators of yet another fantastic feat. So, Jesus refused to facilitate, and removed the blind man from amongst their company. Once outside of the village, Jesus answered this man’s cry of faith, restored his sight, and commanded that he go home and avoid the unrepentant villagers of Bethsaida.

According to Matthew 11:21, the citizens of Bethsaida had already witnessed many miracles, and heard many testimonies. As a result, they should have been converted. But, their hearts were hardened against the truth. The miracles of Jesus had become a sideshow event to them. They had been unable to “see” what they were seeing. Jesus tested the blind man’s ability to “see” by asking him what He saw before fully healing him. When he replied that he saw people as trees walking around, Jesus knew that He had enough faith to be healed (Matthew 17:20). He was not just there for the "show". So He blessed him with total healing, and sent him on to share his testimony in his own hometown.

Is God calling you to come out from among those who play church, or lack the fear of God, so that you can “see”? Are you dwelling amongst those who consider Jesus to be nothing more than a great prophet, or one of many gods? If so, maybe it is time for you to leave that “village” and slip away with Jesus. If you have but a small bit of faith, He can do great things with you. But you must be willing to follow Him, and come away from the nay-sayers. To see or not to see? – the choice is yours.

It's A Family Affair

17 Do you not see what they are doing in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? 18 The children gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women knead the dough and make cakes of bread for the Queen of Heaven. They pour out drink offerings to other gods to provoke me to anger. 19 But am I the one they are provoking? declares the LORD. Are they not rather harming themselves, to their own shame?
20 " 'Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: My anger and my wrath will be poured out on this place, on man and beast, on the trees of the field and on the fruit of the ground, and it will burn and not be quenched.
21 " 'This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Go ahead, add your burnt offerings to your other sacrifices and eat the meat yourselves! 22 For when I brought your forefathers out of Egypt and spoke to them, I did not just give them commands about burnt offerings and sacrifices, 23 but I gave them this command: Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people. Truth has perished; it has vanished from their lips. 29 Cut off your hair and throw it away; take up a lament on the barren heights, for the LORD has rejected and abandoned this generation that is under his wrath.


Has the present state of America made you uncomfortable? Are you concerned about how our children are no longer safe, and how love seems to have disappeared? Murder and poverty now own the streets that were once filled with playing children and respectful passers-by. What could possibly have caused this? The answer is clear – disobedience to God's Word. Today, we are endorsing alternative lifestyles and religions. And this practice has had a drastic effect on our society. Do we really believe that we can sanction perversion in the bedroom, and not have it filter into the streets and seduce our children?

Many years ago, the Lord showed the prophet Jeremiah how whole families had become tainted when God’s standards were compromised. He said that the children gathered the wood, the fathers lit the fire, and the women kneaded the dough. Whole families worked in unison against the LORD in an effort to worship false gods. Just think about it. Today, many of our children are guilty of detestable acts that are too shameful for adults to discuss. There are teenaged murderers, homosexuals, and molesters roaming around. Their works are worthy of nothing more than God’s fire of judgment (1 Corinthians 3:11-13). And by their works, they are gathering wood for God’s judgment. Then, Jeremiah learned that the fathers were lighting the fire for the wood. Today, parents have a responsibility to train their children in God’s way (Proverbs 22:6). Unfortunately, I often see parents sanctioning their children’s illicit acts. Parents have become partakers of their own children’s sins. There are even families who benefit from their youngsters’ lifestyles of drug dealing and “gang-banging”. And then, there were the women who were preparing the sacrifice for the god of this world. Today, many mothers have gone from being nurturers to those who produce children who are sacrificed to satan. Is there any wonder that America is experiencing such troubled times? God is true to His Word. What applied to Judah and Jerusalem applies to America, as well.

Today, I ask you to surrender to God in every area of your life. He will receive you. It has never been His desire that any should suffer or perish. (2 Peter 3:9).

If you are tired of living under oppressive circumstances, or know someone who is, please call unto the Lord, and expect Him to answer (Psalm 4:3, James 5:16, Psalm 32:5-7).
If you are living according to the Word, then I ask you to take time out to pray for mercy and truth to reign throughout our country (Proverbs 29:2). America is desperately in need of your obedience to God’s Plan.

Are You Spiritually Homeless?

Ephesians 5:21
"Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ."

I have had the privilege of being in the company of some of the most powerfully anointed prophets, teachers, and preachers in the Body of Christ. But, oftentimes, I have lost respect for them after dealing with them when they were not under the anointing. It has baffled me how, while operating under the anointing, they could speak words that would make demons flee. But in their own personal lives, they were powerless, rude, ungrateful, stubborn, and strong-willed.

On one occasion, I even heard the Lord say that one of them was a “spiritual vagabond". I didn’t understand at that time what He meant. But He was saying that the person would not submit to leadership. He was roaming about, and refused to submit to anyone. Therefore, he was homeless in the spirit.

In today’s text, we see that the Body of Christ is to submit to one another. When we do this, we show reverence to Christ. Showing reverence means that we glorify Him, honor Him, and adore Him by our actions. In every case where an anointed person failed to carry the fragrance of God into their personal lives, I found that it was because they failed to submit to others who had God-given authority over them (be it husbands, parents, or church leaders).

Today, if you are struggling in your personal life, check to see if you are properly covered, and are submitting to that cover. Make sure that you are not a “spiritual vagabond”. Every Believer is accountable to someone else – including pastors and bishops. This is the divine order of God ((Romans 13:1-3)).

Deliver Us From the spirit of Division

Romans 16:17-18 (King James Version)

"Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple."

Father,
In the name of Jesus, I pray that you would give spiritual discernment to those who are caught up in the web of deception that is being spun by “wolves in sheep’s clothing”. There are those, who by “good words” and “fair speeches”, are drawing Your sheep away from the whole Body of Christ unto their own wicked schemes.

You have said in Your word that those who are envious and operate out of selfish ambition are under the influence of demonic wisdom (James 3:13-15). Their wisdom and ideas do not come from You. Your Spirit promotes unity in the Body. So, Father, I pray for an immediate release of the captives who are subject to such influence. I plead the Blood of Jesus over this situation, on a Church-wide level.

1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4We write this to make our joy complete.

Many people have a difficult time believing the Word of God. They believe that they are being asked to accept Jesus in blind faith. But this is simply not true. The Apostle John wrote, “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched … we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.” John made it clear that the Apostles’ natural senses of sight, touch, and hearing, were satisfied with the appearance of God. Their testimony was based on the obvious. Everyone experienced Jesus- even if they did not believe that He was God’s only Son. Even history books testify to His existence. And today, if you know Him, your spirit testifies that He is alive, and that He is God and that you are His child (Romans 8:16).


Are you struggling with your faith today? If so, it is to be expected. Satan will try everything to separate you from your faith. But you are not defenseless. Claim hold to John’s testimony. It is based on actual facts. And it was given to you so that you could enjoy the fellowship of Believers while you are here on earth.

You Are Invited to Rest Today

Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)

“I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

I never dreamed that ministry work could be so frustrating. When the Lord told my husband that he would shepherd a flock, we got excited. We loved the Lord with our whole hearts, and were eager to share this love with others. But that elation soon turned into heartache as we began to receive constant criticism. And what hurt the most was that this criticism came from other ministry leaders! Some complained that we praised too much and some considered us to be heathenish because we often would replace protocol with praise. Some said that we had too much joy and some said that we didn’t have enough joy. Some told us not to laugh, while others told us to laugh through the trying times. Some said we moved too fast, while others said we moved too slowly. And some said that we needed to look for a ministry building right away, while others said that we needed to continue to have worship service in our home until God finished working on us. Whew! Some even told us that we were too kind and should be meaner to the sheep. If we are serving in the Lord’s vineyard, how can we be any way other than the Lord, Himself, who is “gentle and humble in heart”? How is it that there could come so many different opinions from those who are supposed to be members of the same Body? We would be a confused mess if our legs wanted to go left and our upper torsos wanted to go right! The Body of Christ needs to be in agreement at all times.

After ringing my hands in utter frustration, I cried unto the Lord. And He answered me in a dream. In my dream, I was trying to cross a bridge. I was terrified, but I eventually crossed it, on my hands and knees. When I got to the other side, there was a tunnel that was large enough for me to enter, but when I tried to go in head-first, I could not get through. Then, I saw myself lying with my hands to my sides, as the Lord carried me through, feet-first. The Lord shared with me that I had been thinking about things too much. It was not my place to try to figure things out. I would only be able to continue on my journey if I ceased from my own understanding, and allowed Him to take me as a willing and crucified servant. He would be the one to lead us and actually take us further along the journey.

In my dream, I was resting in complete submission to God. I am sure that this is what God has always wanted for His children. Sometimes, well-meaning Christians burden us with yokes of bondage by giving us a long list of do’s and don’ts. It is good to take Godly counsel from the brethren – especially when you are venturing out in a new area. But, never rely 100% on that counsel, because the Lord may be using you in a different way than He uses others. Always refer back to the source – Jesus. Your mission may be to reach a different type of sheep – bruised sheep, abused sheep, wild sheep, or stubborn sheep. His desire is that you take on His yoke. It is free from the requirements of the burdensome law, and the laws of men.

He promised that if we come to Him, He will give us “rest for our souls”. The soul is comprised of the mind, the will, and the emotions. If your mind is tired from trying to figure things out, and your will is sore from being used in spiritual tug-of-war, and your emotions are exhausted from going up and down on the rollercoaster of life, then it is time for you to draw near, and find solace in the meek and lowly heart of Jesus. I am convinced that this invitation to find rest in Jesus is not only to sinners. I believe that Believers must, also, accept it on a daily basis so that we will not take on burdens that God did not place on us.

Today, I encourage you to:
1. remove the yoke of man’s opinions and traditions
2. go back to the Word and learn of Jesus through study, revelation, and prayer
3. find rest for your weary souls

No, He Didn't!

Ecclesiastes 7:29
"Behold, this is the only [reason for it that] I have found: God made man upright, but they [men and women] have sought out many devices [for evil]." (Amplified)


It really bothers me when I hear sinners say, “God made me this way”. We must know that God created us in His image (Genesis 1:26), and in His perfection. Anything to the contrary is a blatant lie, and it is so disheartening to hear. My first reaction is usually harsh, but then, when the Spirit speaks, He responds and says that “God loves that sinner. It is your job to bring light to his or her situation.”

The Bible says that God made man upright. God would not create us in unrighteousness, only to judge us for that unrighteousness in His wrath (reward of disobedience). God does not tempt us to sin (James 1:13-14); so he certainly would not create us as sinners. Sin is the result of man’s quest to satisfy his evil and fleshly desires.

If you are living a lifestyle that is not pleasing to God (according to the Bible), please know that God did not make you that way. He sent His Son to die in your place so that you could be free from the sin that has you bound. It is not God who predestined you to live in bondage.
Ask the Lord to come into your heart right now, and receive the peace and power that comes from knowing Jesus as your Savior.

Miriam and Aaron Oppose Moses
1 Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite. 2 "Has the LORD spoken only through Moses?" they asked. "Hasn't he also spoken through us?" And the LORD heard this.
3 (Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.)
4 At once the LORD said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, "Come out to the Tent of Meeting, all three of you." So the three of them came out. 5 Then the LORD came down in a pillar of cloud; he stood at the entrance to the Tent and summoned Aaron and Miriam. When both of them stepped forward, 6 he said, "Listen to my words:

"When a prophet of the LORD is among you,
I reveal myself to him in visions,
I speak to him in dreams.
7 But this is not true of my servant Moses;
he is faithful in all my house.
8 With him I speak face to face,
clearly and not in riddles;
he sees the form of the LORD .
Why then were you not afraid
to speak against my servant Moses?"

9 The anger of the LORD burned against them, and he left them.

13 So Moses cried out to the LORD , "O God, please heal her!"
14 The LORD replied to Moses, "If her father had spit in her face, would she not have been in disgrace for seven days? Confine her outside the camp for seven days; after that she can be brought back." 15 So Miriam was confined outside the camp for seven days, and the people did not move on till she was brought back.
16 After that, the people left Hazeroth and encamped in the Desert of Paran.


Are you holding up progress in your local church? Is your constant griping, and attitude of jealousy and complaining, hindering the move of God in your local assembly? If so, thank God that His compassions are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). Thank God that He desires that none would perish. Thank God for grace.

Though Miriam and Aaron had been used as God’s mouthpieces, they had not had the intimacy with God that Moses shared with Him. There are times when we do not understand the move of our leaders. (And, it is a good thing that God doesn’t tell us everything, or we would try to do it ourselves, and then take the credit.) There are times when it is not our place to speak, or to rebut, but to pray and obey.

Today, the message is simple – repent and get back in place. Stay in your own calling, and consider yourself blessed that God would even entrust you with whatever calling He has on your life.

Developing Spiritual Muscle

May your spirit receive this Word and carry it into the New Year. The True Saints will need it!

There are so many people preaching "magic potions" to us nowadays. I have found that God gives us what we need and what we can handle at the time. He will make our enemies our footstools, so we need them to rise up so that we can rise up.

Trials are never meant to hurt us, but to carve us into His image. We are elevated out of them when we learn what we are supposed to learn while in them. And I mean, really learn! We can't turn around 3 times and say magic words while confessing what we don't feel just to move God's Hand. There are levels in God where we must go, but we are not equipped to go. Young David was able to kill Goliath only after God allowed him to wrestle a bear and a lion. When he faced Goliath, all of the other men told him that he was too young and too small. He told them that the same God that delivered him from the lion and the bear will allow him to kill the Giant. David would not have been ready to kill a 10ft giant without remembering how God equipped him to kill the smaller beasts. Trials equip us to kill larger giants that are down the road. After this trial, you will be ready for the next level in God’s call on your life. You won’t be scared as easily after you have survived this one.



Just the other day, the Lord showed me that we will suffer even when we are obeying Him because we are in a war against God's enemy. We will cry sometimes, and there is no amount of "spiritual magic" that will change that. Even Jesus cried. God cries. We must cry.

11 All the other prophets were prophesying the same thing. "Attack Ramoth Gilead and be victorious," they said, "for the LORD will give it into the king's hand."
12 The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, "Look, as one man the other prophets are predicting success for the king. Let your word agree with theirs, and speak favorably."
13 But Micaiah said, "As surely as the LORD lives, I can tell him only what my God says."
14 When he arrived, the king asked him, "Micaiah, shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I refrain?"
"Attack and be victorious," he answered, "for they will be given into your hand."
15 The king said to him, "How many times must I make you swear to tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD ?"
16 Then Micaiah answered, "I saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep without a shepherd, and the LORD said, 'These people have no master. Let each one go home in peace.' "
17 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "Didn't I tell you that he never prophesies anything good about me, but only bad?"
18 Micaiah continued, "Therefore hear the word of the LORD : I saw the LORD sitting on his throne with all the host of heaven standing on his right and on his left. 19 And the LORD said, 'Who will entice Ahab king of Israel into attacking Ramoth Gilead and going to his death there?'
"One suggested this, and another that. 20 Finally, a spirit came forward, stood before the LORD and said, 'I will entice him.'
" 'By what means?' the LORD asked.
21 " 'I will go and be a lying spirit in the mouths of all his prophets,' he said.
" 'You will succeed in enticing him,' said the LORD . 'Go and do it.'
22 "So now the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of these prophets of yours. The LORD has decreed disaster for you."
23 Then Zedekiah son of Kenaanah went up and slapped Micaiah in the face. "Which way did the spirit from [1] the LORD go when he went from me to speak to you?" he asked.
24 Micaiah replied, "You will find out on the day you go to hide in an inner room."
25 The king of Israel then ordered, "Take Micaiah and send him back to Amon the ruler of the city and to Joash the king's son, 26 and say, 'This is what the king says: Put this fellow in prison and give him nothing but bread and water until I return safely.' "
27 Micaiah declared, "If you ever return safely, the LORD has not spoken through me." Then he added, "Mark my words, all you people!"


Ahab Killed at Ramoth Gilead
28 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead. 29 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "I will enter the battle in disguise, but you wear your royal robes." So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.
30 Now the king of Aram had ordered his chariot commanders, "Do not fight with anyone, small or great, except the king of Israel." 31 When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, "This is the king of Israel." So they turned to attack him, but Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him. God drew them away from him, 32 for when the chariot commanders saw that he was not the king of Israel, they stopped pursuing him.
33 But someone drew his bow at random and hit the king of Israel between the sections of his armor. The king told the chariot driver, "Wheel around and get me out of the fighting. I've been wounded." 34 All day long the battle raged, and the king of Israel propped himself up in his chariot facing the Arameans until evening. Then at sunset he died.



About two years ago, the Lord challenged me, and called me out of my comfort zone. In obedience, I followed God to “only He knew where”. And in doing so, I have shed many tears. I have been mocked for my beliefs, lied to, back-bitten, destructively criticized, and ostricized. To sum it all up, God has exposed me to the elements of evil. (He has let my enemies have full frontal view of me while I wear a bulls-eye T-shirt). And at first, I wanted to retreat and climb back in my safe place, but after the Lord gave me a vision of how I would remain standing, in the spirit realm, I have been given the courage to stay exposed. He showed me that armies from the air, the water, and the land would come to attack me, but I was to remain standing still, and He would not let them defeat me. I now know that He was preparing me for my current job. During this time of exposure, the one thing that has hurt the most is the way that people have lied on me. Throughout my entire life, I have valued my good name and reputation higher than anything else that I have owned. My name has always been associated with integrity and hard work. But recently, those whom I have only shown kindness, have outright lied on me for their own purposes. And many times, I've wanted to lash out and defend myself, or clear up the matter. But the Lord has told me to be silent, and let Him handle it.

After reading how the Lord allowed a spirit to be as a lying spirit in the mouths of the 400 prophets, I began to see how our Lord uses The Enemy to destroy our enemies. The King of Israel, Ahab, did not like the servant of God, Micah, because he never gave him pretty words, but always spoke the Mind of the Lord. And the Lord allowed a spirit to lie and tell Ahab that it would be advantageous to go to battle. But when he went to battle after believing the lie, he was killed. Just as Micah was confident that his enemy, Ahab, would not be able to overcome him, I am confident that my enemies will not be able to overtake me. The Lord gave Micah a glimpse of the strategy meeting that He held on his behalf, and the Lord showed me that my enemies would attack, but I would remain standing.

Today, are you facing enemies that seem too powerful and numerous for you? Are you the target of constant lies and back-biting? If so, please take courage. There are more standing with you than there are standing against you. Whatever trap the enemy is setting for you will be used against him. Our God is a strategist, and knows how to hit His target every time.




When the Snake Bites

Acts 28:1-6


Ashore on Malta

1Once safely on shore, we found out that the island was called Malta. 2The islanders showed us unusual kindness. They built a fire and welcomed us all because it was raining and cold. 3Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand. 4When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to each other, "This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, Justice has not allowed him to live." 5But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects. 6The people expected him to swell up or suddenly fall dead, but after waiting a long time and seeing nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and said he was a god.



There is no way around it. At least once in our Christian lives, we are going to get bitten by a (spiritual) snake. We can compare a snake bite to an offense, or an attack from one who seeks to harm us. Jesus warned us in Luke 17:1 that offenses would come. Offenses are those things that give us the opportunity to react through our flesh instead of allowing us to respond through The Spirit.

In today’s text, we see how our flesh ought to respond during a snake attack. Some of the Apostles arrive on the Island of Malta. And while there, they receive the favor of the natives. While enjoying a campfire, a snake attaches itself to Paul’s hand. The natives, who had, at first, shown kindness, immediately jumped to the conclusion that Paul must have been a criminal. They assumed that justice was being served through the snake bite. Then, when they saw that there were no natural, or fleshly reactions from the snake bite, they concluded that Paul must be a god.

Notice the sequence of events:

• Paul and the other apostles are received and treated kindly
• Paul is bitten by a snake
• The natives change their view of Paul, and consider him to be a murderer
• Paul shakes the snake off without suffering any visible repercussions
• The natives consider Paul to be a god

Oftentimes, as Christians, we find ourselves in places where we are quickly received. We enjoy the favor of God as it flows through others, but our circumstances seem to take a turn for the worst. For no reason at all, we find ourselves suffering from a snake bite. This can be the result of remarks made by lying coworkers, being used by false friends, being denied things that God has promised us, being attacked with a sudden illness, and the list goes on. When trials and difficulties come our way, those who first received us, will often turn against us, and declare that we, somehow, deserve the hardship. In some cases, this is true, but in others, as with Job, this is not true. There are times when God will allow us to go through rough seasons so that others may see how a Godly person reacts during hard times. The text tells us that Paul simply shook the snake off. This is exactly how Christians should respond to the attacks of the enemy. We should not give Satan any place to sink his tentacles in our flesh. If we allow offenses to weigh us down, and create bitterness in our souls, we give Satan legal entry to set up a stronghold. Jesus revealed this truth to us in John 14:30 where he told the disciples that Satan had nothing in Him. In other words, Satan has never been able to place a hook in Him, that he could later use to control Him.

You and I must respond to offenses --not react to them. Notice that Paul had no fleshly reaction to the snake bite! This is supernatural, and our responses to the attacks that come against us on a daily basis must also be supernatural (Galatians 5:16). As Christians, we are not to fight in the fleshly realm, but in the spiritual realm (2 Corinthians 10:4)

After Paul showed no fleshly reaction, the people viewed him to be a god. Because they did not understand the principle of monotheism, they considered Paul to be one of many gods. But in fact, Paul was a vessel of the One True God, and his response to the snake bite proved that fact. Can people identify God in you by the way that you handle day-to-day snake bites?

Today, I encourage you to take a lesson from the Apostle Paul, who had no power other than the power that resides in every Holy Ghost-filled Believer. If Paul could crucify his flesh so that God could be glorified, then so can you.

Speak Up So That God Can Hear You

Numbers 27:1-11


Zelophehad's Daughters

1 The daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Makir, the son of Manasseh, belonged to the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph. The names of the daughters were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah. They approached 2 the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the leaders and the whole assembly, and said, 3 "Our father died in the desert. He was not among Korah's followers, who banded together against the LORD , but he died for his own sin and left no sons. 4 Why should our father's name disappear from his clan because he had no son? Give us property among our father's relatives."
5 So Moses brought their case before the LORD 6 and the LORD said to him, 7 "What Zelophehad's daughters are saying is right. You must certainly give them property as an inheritance among their father's relatives and turn their father's inheritance over to them.
8 "Say to the Israelites, 'If a man dies and leaves no son, turn his inheritance over to his daughter. 9 If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers. 10 If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father's brothers. 11 If his father had no brothers, give his inheritance to the nearest relative in his clan, that he may possess it. This is to be a legal requirement for the Israelites, as the LORD commanded Moses.' "
Just imagine how many injustices there are in the earth. And if no one stands up and speaks up, many of them will remain unaddressed. In today’s text, the daughters of Zelophehad took a bold stand. In Biblical times, daughters were not granted the same rights and privileges as sons. When a father died, his property was transferred to his sons. However, no provisions were made for surviving daughters. In this case, Zelophehad had no sons, and his daughters had no right to his inheritance; simply because they were daughters and not sons. The ladies boldly spoke up for what they believed to be right, even though there was a law in place that said that they were wrong.
When they spoke up, Moses went to God and found that God agreed with them. Isn’t it amazing that there are laws in effect which may not be to God’s liking? I, personally, believe that, though the law is good, it is not God's desire that there be a written law. I believe that God prefers that we do by nature what is right, and that His law be written upon our hearts. This would make us like Him – Holy. But, because of our fallen nature, there must be laws in place to regulate our actions.

It would only be right to give Zelophehad’s daughters what belonged to their deceased father. And God agreed – so much so, that He began to rewrite the law according to His Own desires. It seemed that once Moses asked God His opinion in the matter, a flood gate was opened where God’s desires just flowed freely from His Lips. I wonder how many other matters are in existence on which God would like to submit His comments? I am sure that there are many. This is why prayer is so important. We must, as the custodians of the earth, invite God to offer His guidance and direction. In 2 Chronicles 7:14 the LORD declares that He will come in and fix things if we would only grant Him entrance into the situations at hand.

MAHLAH("weak" or "sick"), NOAH ("motion”), TIRZAH ("favourable"), Hoglah (“his festival or dance”), and Milcah (“queen”) made an everlasting difference in a male-dominated culture, just by speaking up.

Today, I encourage you to go to the Lord with that situation that is on your mind. You may find out that God agrees with you, and wants to use you as a change agent. Speak up so that God can hear you, and you may be given the power to change the very course of earthly matters.

In a few days, Americans will have to vote for a new President. I pray that every person will take this responsibility seriously. God gave dominion of the earth to mankind (Genesis 1:27-28). It is our direct responsibility to make choices that ensure that the principles of God are followed and respected in the earth. Please cry out to the Lord and ask Him for direction concerning this pivotal election.

Is God Playing Hide and Seek?

Job 23: 8-9

8 "But if I go to the east, he is not there;
if I go to the west, I do not find him.
9 When he is at work in the north, I do not see him;
when he turns to the south, I catch no glimpse of him.
10 But he knows the way that I take;
when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold.
11 My feet have closely followed his steps;
I have kept to his way without turning aside.
12 I have not departed from the commands of his lips;
I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.


If you have ever longed for a meeting with the Lord, like Job did, then you know how frustrating it can be to search for Him and not be able to find Him when you feel that you need Him the most. Job wanted to plead his case with the Lord, and explain to him that he was a righteous man who had been wrongly judged. JOb had lost everything, but had done nothing wrong. When Job looked for God, he declared that he could not find Him. But somehow, God knew every step that Job had taken. Job had concluded, that though he could not find God, God knew where his feet had trodden. And that was a good thing, because Job had taken exactly the steps that God wanted him to take. You see, Job followed God closely, never turned away from God’s Way, obeyed God’s every command, and treasured God’s Words. And by taking these steps, Job ended up in a heap of trouble. Yes! Obedience is good, but it has consequences, as well as, rewards (1 Timothy 3:12). He was being buffeted by Satan because he was an honorable man in the sight of God.

Does this describe your situation today? Have you searched for, followed, and obeyed the Lord, only to end up in a desperate situation? If so, take heart. I have found that God is glorified when He allows a Son or a Daughter to go through the fire, because He trusts them to come out refined. Notice that I said a Son or Daughter. Many “church people” go through, and get lost somewhere along the journey (Matthew 13:20-22). But a Son or a Daughter of the Most High, knows that, even though the Father’s Presence is not easily recognizable when the flames of the Refiner’s Fire create a smoke cloud, He is there with them (Isaiah 43:1-2).

Be encouraged today if the fire of affliction is snapping at your heels. Do as Job did – seek God’s Face. But if He is silent, just know that He is not playing Hide and Seek with you, He is just being quiet while you take your test.

Barefoot and Pregnant

October 25, 2004

Deuteronomy 25:5-10


5 If brothers are living together and one of them dies without a son, his widow must not marry outside the family. Her husband's brother shall take her and marry her and fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to her. 6 The first son she bears shall carry on the name of the dead brother so that his name will not be blotted out from Israel.
7 However, if a man does not want to marry his brother's wife, she shall go to the elders at the town gate and say, "My husband's brother refuses to carry on his brother's name in Israel. He will not fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to me." 8 Then the elders of his town shall summon him and talk to him. If he persists in saying, "I do not want to marry her," 9 his brother's widow shall go up to him in the presence of the elders, take off one of his sandals, spit in his face and say, "This is what is done to the man who will not build up his brother's family line." 10 That man's line shall be known in Israel as The Family of the Unsandaled.


If you ever take the time to read through the law books of Moses, you will uncover some laws that baffle the human mind. God declares that His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9), and His ways are not our ways, and this is evident when we read the Word of God. In today’s text, we see that any man who was not willing to marry his dead brother’s wife who lived among the family, would end up with spit on his face, and one shoe off of his foot. Wow! What a punishment. I am sure that there are plenty of “in-law” jokes that could come out of this account of the law, but one thing that sticks out is the fact that one who would refuse to produce seed in his brother’s stead would end up publicly humiliated and permanently labeled. Apparently, there was a custom where agreements were sealed when the party making the agreement would remove his sandal and give it willingly to the other party. In this case, the angry widow, would remove the sandal, thus indicating that the unwilling, surviving brother would not keep the law, and agree to marry her. Though his loins were pregnant with seed that would allow him to fulfill his duty to his brother, he would refuse and be forever demoralized among his people. He would become “barefoot and pregnant”.

As I read this law, I saw that The Church is as the wife, for She is known as the Bride of Christ. And Jesus, the Bridegroom (Matthew 9:14-16) was crucified, and had no children (Isaiah 53:7-8). However, He made a way for the Holy Spirit to produce Sons and Daughters on His behalf. Isn’t it wonderful to know that the God you serve is faithful in every way? That which the Father could not do because of His own Holiness (fellowship with sinners), He sent His Son to do in sinful flesh (fellowship with, and die for sinners). And that which the Son could not do because He had to die in judgment (produce Sons and Daughters for the Father), He sent the Holy Ghost to do. Our God is One (Deuteronomy 6:4, John 10:30), though He has appeared to us in three Persons, and He is more than able to care for His Bride. It is good to know that God is willing to do what He requires of us.

Living in the Son Light

Exodus 22:2-3

2 "If a thief is caught breaking in and is struck so that he dies, the defender is not guilty of bloodshed; 3 but if it happens after sunrise, he is guilty of bloodshed.


In today’s text, we see that it was lawful for a victim to seek justice against a thief if he was caught in the night, but after the sun rose, the victim who killed a thief would be guilty of murder. What is the difference? The thief was as guilty in the darkness as he was in the light. Why would God hold a victim guilty for reacting to a trespasser if the trespassing took place after sunrise?

Jesus gives us the answer in Matthew 5. By expounding upon the law, Jesus shares with us that the law was good and served its purpose, but greater than the law are the principles of the Kingdom of God. Jesus enlightens us by letting us know that after the Son of God has risen in our hearts, our actions should not only meet the requirements of the law, but should extend above them. For if the love of God and the law of God are written upon our hearts, they will allow us to see circumstances in a “different light”.

When we were in darkness, we did not realize that we were trespassing against God’s law. We did not know that God had a right to kill us as we trespassed in darkness. But when we were enlightened through salvation, and the powerful work of the Holy Spirit, our sinful actions were clear to see, and we saw that, though we were guilty of trespassing (even in the Light), God did not kill us, but extended mercy.

Jesus expects us to extend the same mercy to those who hurt us, lie on us, hate us, use us, and abuse us. This is because the Church has been given the ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:17-19). When we extend the Love and Mercy of God to those who sin against us, we are sharing in the character and purpose of God.

Why should you forgive those who sin against you since you have been walking in The Son Light? – because you have been forgiven by The Son (Romans 5:10-11).
